Dear Brothers and Sister in Christ,
I’m sure we all know people, who always seem to have a smile on their faces. How is it they are so joyful? And why aren't we more joyful? Why do we allow pessimism and cynicism to get the better of us? The Psalm this Sunday calls us to “sing joyfully to the Lord.” And at the same time, it warns us against hardening our hearts toward God. What a challenge this can be for us. Our hard heartedness keeps us from seeing the goodness in the people around us. It prevents us from believing that God’s grace is enough for us to conquer the sin in our lives. As our hearts harden and our heads thicken, we find it more difficult to get outside of ourselves and thus find reasons to be joyful.
The Good News is that Jesus can help us to break through these shackles that bind us. By allowing Jesus to love and forgive us we in turn can be more loving and forgiving to others. We can truly be a blessing unto others and a catalyst for joy to radiate in our world.
Peace, Fr. Steve
