We all know the beautiful words of the Beatitudes. They describe to us what the authentic life of one who is seeking the Lord looks like. Christian values often run contrary to societal values, so its no surprise that God’s blessings come to us in counterintuitive ways. The way to God is marked by justice and righteousness, by seeking peace and humility. The meek, not the bold and confident are asked to be leaders.
In a perfect world, people would treat each other with love and respect. A perfect world would be at peace, and justice would prevail. We know too well that our world is not perfect. It is our responsibility to be beacons of light, helping to make our world a better place. Not everyone will understand what we do or what we say. There may be significant pushback, but we must push on.
The way to seek the Lord is to seek justice, righteousness, and peace as he did. Unfortunately, even he did not find those things. We need to do the right thing, even if we don’t get what’s right in return. Our blessings come from knowing we are doing the will of God. We may suffer greatly in this life, but our rewards will be great in heaven.
