Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As we look forward to the beginning of Lent this coming Wednesday, we prepare ourselves to engage in the customary Lenten observances of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. I would like to focus on the area of sharing our financial resources, since this Lent will be marked by our need to seriously consider making a monetary sacrifice/gift in order for our plan to construct our new parish center to become a reality. I will be speaking about our capital campaign this weekend to help establish a greater enthusiasm for this much needed project. Our parish is ready to make good on the long range plan established when our present “new church” was constructed to move the overwhelming majority of parish activities to the Marshall Drive campus. This will allow us to better meet the needs of our religious education program, parish organizations, and our parish as a whole. I thank all those who have already begun to think about how they will contribute to our capital campaign to make it successful. There will be several meetings over the next several weeks to present the project and our plans for fundraising to the parish. Please, make every effort to attend one of these meetings. (The schedule will be forthcoming)
Next weekend I will briefly mention the Bishop’s annual Lenten Appeal which will begin the following week. Last year we exceeded our goal by about $12,000. That money will be refunded to the parish. Thank you for your generosity.
In addition to appealing to your generous hearts, I ask you to pray for a successful capital campaign and Lenten Appeal. May God bless you and our parish of St. Peter with continued growth and commitment to sharing the joy of the Gospel in our midst.
Peace, Fr. Steve
