Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today St. John offers us some advice as he lovingly addresses us as children: Let us love not in word or speech but in deed and in truth. We all know that actions speak louder than words. For most, talking is easy, but actually following through with meaningful action presents more of a challenge.
John continues to stress the importance of loving one another, keeping God’s commandments and doing what pleases Him. Again all this is easier said than done. We all have those difficult people in our lives, who make it very hard for us to love them. All their faults and annoying quirks come to mind very quickly. Life would be so much easier if they would change their ways. How often do we stop to consider how difficult we might be to those around us. We are not always that easy to love. This perspective is necessary for us to remain humble and honest.
The good news for us is that we have access to a font of limitless grace for us to turn to for strength. Jesus is the vine and we are the branches. By staying connected to the Lord, we will find the tools we need to be faithful and generous in sharing his love and mercy in our own lives.
