Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This week we hear St. Peter’s great profession of faith, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Then Jesus declares that he will build his church on the rock of St. Peter and give him the keys of the kingdom.
The Pope, the successor of St. Peter, has a tremendous responsibility in shepherding Christ’s church in the modern age. May we always remember the intentions of the Holy Father in prayer.
Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to Your shepherd, Pope Francis, a spirit of courage and right judgment, a spirit of knowledge and love.
By governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care may he, as successor to the apostle Peter and vicar of Christ, build Your church into a sacrament of unity, love, and peace for all the world.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
