It is common for us to celebrate a Saint’s feast day on or close to the day of their earthly death and their birth into eternal life. Only three persons, one divine and two human, have the honor of having their birthdays remembered in the church calendar. We celebrate Jesus’ birth on Christmas and our Blessed Mother’s birth on September 8th. This weekend we mark the birth of John the Baptist, who prepared the way for our Lord and Messiah.
The Psalm response: I praise you for I am wonderfully made reminds us not only of the significance and beauty of John’s life, but also how precious we all are and how important we are in God’s plan. May we, like John the Baptist, never forget to devote our lives to pointing the way to God in every thought, word, and deed.
